Much-aniticpated showdown headlines MMA at the River Rock on August 21st
Battlefield fight league is set to unleash another explosive show featuring two of Canada’s top
Featherweight prospects.
Battlefield at the River Rock will take place Saturday, August 21st at the River Rock show theatre in Richmond, B.C., with a card headlined by a clash between crowd favourites Gary ‘saint lion’ Mangat and
Kelowna’s Chris Day.
Day (6-1) who is undefeated as a featherweight has been ripping through opponents in his weight class. Day who also headlined Battlefield’s last event, gained considerable respect for his toe-to-toe encounter against Sassaki last month. Day, who was outweighed by over 20 pounds, had Sassaki in deep trouble on the mat late in the third round and almost pulled off the submission victory.
Mangat (5-2) is coming off back to back wins this year. Mangat captured his organization debut with a thorough first round stoppage of Alfred Leslie at MMA at the Station. Mangat will have to rely on his superior wrestling and explosiveness to offset Day’s top notch submission game in this much anticipated bout.
“The fight between Day and Mangat is going to be an all out war between two of our top featherweights. I know that these two fighters will put on an effort worthy of main-event status.” Said Golshani.
A number of Battlefield’s top fighters will be on the card including Marco ‘Pezao’ Caffiero,
Sean Zubor, Ash Masheghi and Adam Santos. The card will also feature a Welterweight bout between
Jacen Brooks and Matt Dwyer.
Tickets for Battlefield at the River Rock will go on sale through ticketmaster on Monday July 19th via Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca and charge by phone (604)280-4400.
