These five mixed martial artists are fighters that are currently not signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship organization.
The reason these five fighters should be signed by the UFC is mainly to end the arguments about who is indeed the best. It is time to find out who really is the man to beat in there respected division to end all of the speculation.
Let's start with number five, and we will work our way to the number one fighter that should be signed by the UFC.
5. Bobby Lashley, Heavyweight
Bobby Lashley is currently signed by Strikeforce, and he is a very good, up-and-coming fighter in the MMA world.
The former WWE and TNA star is dedicated to improving his skills in this sport, and he can really test himself by coming to the UFC.
Of course he would be compared to the current UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar, because they come from the same background. Both Lesnar and Lashley were collegiate wrestlers, brought up through the popular professional wrestling organization, WWE.
This would make a great storyline for a fight between the two. Both are great on the ground and have stand up that is coming along nicely. The promoters would go crazy with this fight, and I think it would be a good show.
4. Shinya Aoki, Lightweight
Aoki was ranked as the No. 1 lightweight for a long time. This was until B.J. Penn got his head on straight.
But now there is a lot of speculation about who truely is the No. 1 lightweight in the world. Aoki fights in Japan, while Penn is the current UFC Lightweight champion.
If Aoki came to the UFC, I am sure it would not take long for him to get a shot at B.J.'s belt, since the lightweight division has been cleaned out by the champ. This would also put an end to any comparison between the two.
If Shinya Aoki really wanted to test himself then he would leave Japan and push for a UFC contract.
3. Jake Shields, Middleweight
If Jake Shields beats Dan Henderson to defend his Strikeforce middleweight title, what iss next for him?
That fight vs. "Hendo" is the last fight on his current Strikeforce contract. He has previously stated that a move to the UFC after would most likely come next.
After the UFC lost Henderson to Strikeforce, the credibility of the middleweight division went down the tubes.
Adding another top middleweight who could potentially fight for Anderson Silva's title would deffinately help the UFC's 185 lb division.
Shields has lingered at the top of the middleweight ranks, and for him to really prove he belongs in the top 3, he needs to come to the UFC. The UFC is considered the top of line for MMA, so why not prove yourself in the octagon?
2. Gegard Mousasi, Middle/Light Heavyweight
Although Mousasi cannot really decide what weightclass he belongs to, he deffinately deserves a UFC contract.
There is word flying around that everybody wants to see an Anderson Silva vs. Gegard Mousasi fight, so let's make it happen.
Mousasi has faught in different weight classes before. He was a welterweight during the Pride Grand Prix, he won Cage Warriors at middleweight, and faught again at middleweight for the Dream Grand Prix.
Mousasi is also the current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, and he even faught as a heavyweight at Dynamite!! 2009 in Japan.
Gegard's next fight is again at light heavyweight to defend his title, but just like Jake Shields, where does he go after?
Possibly the UFC. He could make a good run at Anderson Silva's or Lyoto Machida's title.
1. Fedor Emelianenko, Heavyweight
Of course Fedor is at the top of the list. He has been the talk of MMA for a very long time.
MMA rankings are split between Brock Lesnar and Fedor as the No. 1 heavyweight in the world. The debate can go on and on about who is the best, but the truth is we will never know unless they fight.
So let's end the discussion and get these two in the octagon together.
What better stage than the top MMA organization in the world to put on an event with this caliber?
The UFC would promote the hell out of this fight, and it could go down as one of the greatest battles of all time.
Fedor needs to man-up, and cut ties with M-1 to come to the UFC to prove to the world that he is the best. You can't be the best unless you beat the best, and right now, Brock Lesnar is the best.
